HubSpot contacts not associated with a company

Why it matters

Account-level reports, deal roll-ups, and routing by company all depend on the contact-to-company link.

If you sell to consumers, many contacts without a company may be correct. Confirm your model before changing anything.

How to find it in HubSpot

1. 1Open CRM > Contacts.
2. 2Add a filter on the associated company and choose is unknown.
3. 3Add the Email and Create date columns and sort by email domain.
4. 4In Settings, check whether automatic company association from email domain is turned on.

How to fix it safely

1. 1Confirm whether you are B2B, B2C, or both. Only B2B contacts need a company.
2. 2Turn on automatic company association by email domain if it is off and suits your model.
3. 3Associate existing contacts by domain in small batches, skipping free email domains such as gmail.com.

Before you change anything: Associating by domain can link contacts to the wrong company when a domain is shared or a person has moved jobs. Review before bulk changes.

What it looks for

ARCH-014 checks a sample of at least 5 contacts and flags when 20% or more have no company association. CONTACT-008 also lists business email domains (free providers such as Gmail are excluded) that have 10 or more sampled contacts, so you can confirm each one has a company record.

Severity

ARCH-014 is info, or a warning when half or more of sampled contacts are affected. CONTACT-008 is info.

Evidence shown

The number of sampled contacts without a company and their IDs.

Governed fix

Not automated. Ancil reports the gap and recommends a reviewed repair. It only links records that approved domain or source data supports.
