Open HubSpot deals past their close date

An open deal whose close date has passed is either late, lost, or mis-dated, and the forecast cannot tell which. Filter open deals with a close date before today, then have each owner either move the date with a reason or close the deal.

DealsDEAL-002Updated 2026-10-28

Why it matters

Overdue open deals sit in the pipeline at full value while the period they were forecast for is already over. Forecast accuracy and win-rate reporting both suffer.

A long tail of overdue deals also trains the team to ignore close dates, which makes every future forecast weaker.

How to find it in HubSpot

  1. Open CRM > Deals in the table view.
  2. Add the filter Close date is before, and choose today’s date.
  3. Add the filter Deal stage is none of, and select every Closed won and Closed lost stage.
  4. Add the Deal owner, Amount, and Last activity date columns, then sort by Amount so the largest deals are reviewed first.

How to fix it safely

  1. Review each deal with its owner in your next pipeline meeting.
  2. If the deal is still alive, set a new close date and log the reason in a note.
  3. If the buyer has gone quiet, move the deal to Closed lost with a lost reason rather than letting it roll forward.
  4. Track how often close dates move. Deals that slip repeatedly belong in a separate forecast category.
