HubSpot forms without a required email field

If a form does not require an email address, submissions can create contacts you cannot identify, match, or follow up with. Review your active forms, confirm which ones need a reliable identifier, and make email required on them.

FormsFORM-001Updated 2026-10-28

Why it matters

HubSpot uses email to match a submission to an existing contact. Without it, you get duplicates or orphaned submissions.

Sales cannot follow up on a lead they cannot contact, and attribution reports lose the conversion.

How to find it in HubSpot

  1. Open Marketing > Forms.
  2. Open each active form and check whether it includes the Email field and whether it is marked required.
  3. Note forms used for demo requests, contact, and downloads first.

How to fix it safely

  1. Add the Email field and make it required on every form where you need to follow up.
  2. For forms that intentionally collect no email, such as a quick poll, document why.
  3. Test each changed form with a real submission.
