HubSpot contacts with invalid email addresses

An email address with no @, spaces, or a missing domain will bounce every time you send to it, and repeated bounces damage your sending reputation. Find them with a few contact filters, correct or remove them, and add validation to the forms and imports that created them.

ContactsCONTACT-009Updated 2026-10-28

Why it matters

Hard bounces count against your email sending reputation, which affects whether your good emails reach inboxes.

Contacts with broken emails cannot be matched across systems or enrolled in sequences.

How to find it in HubSpot

  1. Open CRM > Contacts.
  2. Add the filter Email does not contain @. Create a second view with Email contains a space.
  3. Check contacts with a known hard bounce reason as well, since many of these are invalid.
  4. Add the Original source and Create date columns to find where they came from.

How to fix it safely

  1. Correct obvious typos when you can confirm the right address, for example from a recent email thread.
  2. Remove or archive contacts whose address cannot be fixed and who have no deals or open activity.
  3. Add validation to forms and imports so malformed addresses are rejected at entry.
