Every contact, company, deal and ticket in HubSpot has a timeline of activities. Some arrive automatically: emails sent from a connected inbox, meetings booked through the meetings tool, calls made through the calling tool. Others need a rep to log them, such as calls made from a mobile phone or an in-person meeting. Integrations with calendars, dialers and video tools can fill many of the gaps.
Logged activity powers a lot of HubSpot. Properties such as last activity date and number of sales activities are calculated from it. Views of deals with no recent activity, stale deal alerts and activity reports all depend on it. When activity is missing, a well-worked deal looks neglected and a neglected one cannot be told apart from it.
Outcomes matter as much as the activity. Calls and meetings have outcome properties, such as connected, left voicemail, completed or no show. Without outcomes, a report can count calls but cannot say how many reached anyone. That makes it hard to coach reps or to judge whether a campaign is producing real conversations.
Make logging the default rather than a chore. Connect inboxes and calendars, use HubSpot’s calling and meetings tools where possible, and make the call and meeting outcome required. Then build manager views on activity data so reps see that what they log is used.
