HubSpot line items missing price, quantity or a deal

Why it matters

HubSpot can calculate a deal amount from its line items. A blank quantity or price quietly turns that amount into zero or a partial figure, so pipeline and forecast reports understate real revenue.

Orphaned line items, with no deal and no quote, usually come from deleted deals, failed imports or integrations that created items before their parent record. They inflate product reports and confuse anyone trying to reconcile revenue.

How to find it in HubSpot

1. 1Open a sample of recent deals and quotes and check the line item section for blank quantity or unit price values.
2. 2If your portal lets you report on line items, build a report on line items with the Quantity, Unit price and Name columns, filtered to where either value is unknown.
3. 3In the same report, add the associated deal and associated quote, and look for line items with neither.
4. 4Note the create date and source of each affected item to see whether one import or integration created most of them.

How to fix it safely

1. 1For each affected line item, find the source transaction: the deal, the quote, or the record in your billing tool.
2. 2Have the deal owner correct the quantity, price, discount and term, and confirm the deal amount afterwards.
3. 3For orphaned line items, confirm with the owner whether they belong to an existing deal. Associate them only when the evidence is clear, otherwise leave them for review.
4. 4Fix the creation path: make sure imports and integrations create the deal or quote first, and always send quantity and price.

Before you change anything: Do not delete orphaned line items in bulk. Some may be the only record of a past sale that your finance team still needs to reconcile.
