HubSpot check library

HubSpot products missing SKU or price

A product with no SKU or no price cannot be matched reliably by integrations, and every quote or line item built from it starts incomplete. Filter the product library for a blank SKU or price, confirm the values with whoever owns pricing, and complete the library before you automate quotes.

Why it matters

Line items copy their starting values from the product library. A product with no price produces line items with no price, which flow into quotes, deal amounts and revenue reports.

The SKU is often the key that accounting, ERP and ecommerce integrations use to match a HubSpot product to their own catalog. Without it, syncs either fail or create duplicates on the other side.

A library that exists but is never used in quotes is a related signal. It often means the team still builds pricing outside HubSpot, so the library drifts out of date without anyone noticing.

How to find it in HubSpot

  1. Open the product library. In most portals it sits under Commerce, or under Sales in older portals.
  2. Switch to the table view and add the SKU and Unit price columns.
  3. Add the filter SKU is unknown, then save the view. Repeat with Unit price is unknown.
  4. Note which products are still sold today and which are legacy items nobody should quote any more.
  5. Open the quotes index and check whether any quotes exist. If none do, your product library is not yet used in quoting.

How to fix it safely

  1. Agree the source of truth for products and pricing, such as your accounting system or a pricing sheet, before anyone edits values.
  2. Ask the pricing owner to supply the SKU, price, currency and billing frequency for each active product.
  3. Archive or clearly rename legacy products so sales reps cannot pick them by mistake.
  4. Test one complete quote end to end, from product to line item to quote to deal amount, before you roll quoting out to the team.

Before you change anything: If an integration syncs products into HubSpot, fix the values in the source system. Edits made only in HubSpot may be overwritten on the next sync.

How Ancil checks this

Rule
COMMERCE-002, COMMERCE-001
What it looks for
Reads up to 500 products from the product library and flags any product with a blank SKU or a blank price. When products exist but Ancil finds no quotes at all, it adds an informational note that the product library is not yet represented in quotes.
Severity
Warning for products missing SKU or price. Info for the product library with no quotes.
Evidence shown
Product IDs, names and whether SKU, price or both are missing, for up to 50 products.
Governed fix
Not automated. Ancil reports the evidence only. Your team, or an INSIDEA expert, updates products, because Ancil never changes commerce or financial records automatically.

Frequently asked questions

Does every product need a SKU?

Not always. If you never sync products with another system, a SKU is less critical. Most teams that connect accounting, ERP or ecommerce tools need one, because the SKU is how those tools match products.
