HubSpot pages missing a meta description

When a page has no meta description, search engines write their own snippet from the page text, which is often less relevant. Find published website and landing pages without one, start with your most visited pages, and write a short, accurate description for each.

Why it matters

The meta description is your best chance to shape the snippet people see under your page title in search results. A clear description can lift clicks without any change in ranking.

Missing descriptions are rarely isolated. Pages built without one often skipped other review steps, such as titles, canonical URLs and form checks.

Pages with no recorded template are harder to govern. During a redesign or migration, they are the pages most likely to be missed or rebuilt by hand.

How to find it in HubSpot

  1. Open Content > Website Pages and filter to published pages. Repeat for landing pages.
  2. Open the settings of each page and check the meta description field.
  3. If your subscription includes SEO recommendations, review the list for missing meta descriptions.
  4. Sort pages by views in your analytics so you fix the most visited pages first.

How to fix it safely

  1. Write a description for each important page of roughly 120 to 160 characters that states what the page offers.
  2. Make each description unique. Copying one description across many pages gives search engines little to work with.
  3. While each page is open, check the page title and canonical URL.
  4. Add meta description and template checks to your page launch checklist.

How Ancil checks this

Rule
CMS-002, CMS-006
What it looks for
Reads up to 500 website pages and up to 500 landing pages, then looks only at published or scheduled ones. CMS-002 runs when there are at least 3 published pages and flags when 25% or more of them have a blank meta description. CMS-006 flags published pages with no template path, which weakens template governance and migration planning. Some system pages are valid exceptions.
Severity
Info for both rules.
Evidence shown
The number of published pages checked, plus the name and URL for up to 50 affected pages.
Governed fix
Not automated. Ancil does not edit or publish pages. It reports the affected pages, and your team (or an INSIDEA expert) updates them in HubSpot.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a full SEO audit?

No. It checks one metadata field across published pages. Rankings also depend on content quality, links, speed and indexing, which this check does not measure.

Why does a missing template path matter?

The template tells you how a page is built. When it is blank, a redesign or migration cannot map the page to a new template automatically, so the page needs a manual review.
