HubSpot URL redirect chains and loops

A redirect that points back to itself can create a loop, and a redirect that leads into another redirect adds delay and weakens search signals. Review your URL redirects, point each one straight at its final destination, and remove self-redirects.

Why it matters

Each extra hop slows the page for visitors and gives search engines one more step to follow.

Chains build up over years of site changes and migrations, and loops can make a page unreachable.

How to find it in HubSpot

  1. In Settings, open Content > Domains & URLs, then URL Redirects.
  2. Export or sort the list by original URL.
  3. Find redirects whose destination is the same as their original URL.
  4. Find redirects whose destination is itself the original URL of another redirect.

How to fix it safely

  1. Update each chained redirect to point straight to the final destination.
  2. Remove self-redirects after checking the page they protect is live.
  3. Test the old URLs to confirm they reach the right page in one step.

Before you change anything: Check inbound links and campaign URLs before removing a redirect. A removed redirect can turn a working link into a 404.

Evidence shown
Each affected redirect with its source and destination.
Governed fix
